ENTREPRENEUR OF THE WEEK

Meet Mue Martins, a pragmatic  final year law student at the prestigious Faculty of Law Benue State University Makurdi who is also the  chairman and CEO of  C.T.M Group of Companies, a parent  company of C.T.M Stores located at off Chia Ikima street adjacent Vaatia College Sites and Services Makurdi.

 A young entrepreneur who saw the need of  setting up the only provision store at Sites and Services behind owner Occupier Estate Makurdi, said his aim is to make life a lot easier for people living in the neighborhood and environs and he  does not  see formal education as the only means of survival.  Thus, it spurred him to create job opportunities for other youths who are working for him.
 His reasons for setting up provision stores even as a law student, he answered:
"imagine the typical life in the neighborhood where one  enter his  bathroom to a have a bath only to discover he's  out soap, or you are cooking a pot of soup and wanted to add seasonings  only to discover that you don't have any left, all you need to is come out and get it at your door step". He further stated that;
  •  Many people cannot afford to buy provisions in bulk even at big stores coupled with the economic quagmire in the country where salaries are not being paid. This prompt  a lot of people in the neighborhood to need  items on daily basis but cannot afford to buy in bulk and keep in their homes, thus is therefore a relief to bring it to their door steps in order to make it easier for them without going to town.
  • It is much more convenient. Sometimes people get home from town only to remember they out of basic needs like milk or bread or even soap,  in this regards to it makes it easier for them to buy from our stores rather than going a far away distance.
The Challenges includes heavy tax, power outage credit from customers and his advice to other potential business owners is that;
For one to go into a business of his own, he has to have an entrepreneurial spirit that is, take a personal inventory before before becoming an entrepreneur. You must determine whether you have what it takes to survive in the competitive market. Also,
  • You must be a problem solver.
  • You must give yourself time to be creative in other words you have to give your customers what others are not given to them.
  • You must also be a constant learner i.e you must persistent in learning. And finally you must have a mentor and be able to take risks.

Mue martins also plans to go into real estate after he is call to Bar.
